Rice Classification & Varieties Available Worldwide

Rice is consumed by large populations across the world. Moreover, there are many varieties of rice depending on its geographical location and cultivation process. Majorly, rice is classified as per its size – long grain organic basmati rice, medium grain rice, and short grain rice.

Long-grain rice: Usually organic white and organic brown basmati rice has long grains. It is characterised by its long and slender appearance. Long grain rice is four to five times longer than its width. When cooked properly, they turn into dry, fluffy and separate grains.

Medium-grain rice: It is characterised by its double-length compared to its width. This rice type is grown by basmati rice manufacturers widely in some Asian regions, as well as Latin American cultures.

Short-grain rice: It is almost oval or round in shape. Out of all three rice types, this one has the highest amount of amylopectin, which is the starch and makes rice sticky. These rice grains clump together when cooked. It is considered best for making dishes like sushi and some desserts.
